چکیده

This paper discusses a novel approach towards socializing non-anthropomorphic robots, which harnesses the expert knowledge of dancers to develop abstract robot morphologies and their capacity to move in affective and expressive ways. We argue that movement offers a key to socializing non-anthropomorphic robots. Our Performative Body Mapping (PBM) method investigates the possibility of teaching a nonhumanlike robot to move and interact by human movement experts. The paper outlines the conceptual framework of PBM and discusses an ongoing pilot study that engages professional dancers to study the relationship between abstract, simple morphologies and their potential to move in expressive, socially encoded ways.

DigiMech Learning Environments: supporting social awareness in a community of humans, virtual humans and anthropomorphic robots

Recent technological developments have opened new perspectives for the cooperation between human learners, virtual humans and anthropomorphic robots, especially in an augmented virtual reality continuum. This kind of learning environments can be defined as DigiMech Learning Environments (DMLE). The richness and variety of users’ possible interactions in such environments go far beyond the simpl...

ANTI IROPOMORP}IIC TEI.l~MANII’UI.KI’ION SYSTEM IN TERMINUS CONTROL MODE 13runo

The paper describes a prototype anthropomorphic kinesthetic telepresence system that is being developed at JP1.. It utilizes dexterous terminus devices in form of an exoskeleton force-sensing master glove worn by the operator and a replica four finger anthropomorphic slave hand. The newly developed master glove is integrated with our previously developed non-anthropomorphic six degree-of-freedo...

Alpha-actinin-3 R577X Polymorphism Profile of Turkish Professional Hip-Hop and Latin Dancers

Actins are small globular filaments functioning in cell processes like muscle contraction, and stabilized to the sarcomeric Z- discs by actin binding proteins (actinins). One of the important gene coding for actin binding proteins in fast twitch fibers is alpha- actinin- 3 (ACTN3). In this research, we have conducted a gene profile study investigating the genotype and allele distributions of AC...

Comparison of Cervical and Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials in Dancers and Non-Dancers

The objective of the study was to assess the sacculocollic and otolith ocular pathway function using cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP) and ocular vestibular myogenic potentials (oVEMP) in dancers and non dancers. Total 16 subjects participated in the study. Out of 16 participants, 8 were trained in Indian classical form of dance (dancers) and other 8 participants who were n...

Creative Cognition in Choreography

Contemporary choreography offers a window onto creative processes that rely on harnessing the power of sensory systems. Dancers use their body as a thing to think with and their sensory systems as engines to simulate ideas nonpropositionally. We report here on an initial analysis of data collected in a lengthy ethnographic study of the making of a dance by a major choreographer and show how tra...
